Note: This is a new fixed bridge under construction. As of 25 Oct 2016, the span over the channel was in place and the roadway deck was being poured. There are temporary height boards in place at the the base of the piers on both sides. The bridge crosses the channel diagonally. There were several loose loops of cable hanging from the span and need to be avoided.

Report:

• From Fall 2007 to Spring 2012, Onward made ten transits of this bridge without any problems with height.
• In Oct 2012, near high tide, the height board readings were ~ 62' Onward and a sister ship, Beckoning, anchored to wait for the tide to fall.
• 30 Oct 2014 @ 11:45. HB on E / N side read ~63' at Td= ; TS =. Onward and Beckoning had to anchor until 18:00 when the HB = 64.5'
• When Onward made the transit, the tip of its VHF (65.75') just flicked one bridge beam; thus, the actual clearance height was ~65.5' which meant the HB are apparently reading ~1.' lower than actual.

Note: Beware of strong currents and shoaling on N approaches to bridge. There are submerged sand waves that can capture a keel if a vessel strays out of the channel. It is best to await an opening much further away from the bridge.
